Principal’s Weekly Update – December 22nd, 2023

When they saw that the star had stopped, they were overwhelmed with joy.  (Matthew 2:10)

Update Attachments – : Sacramental Prep

A huge thank you to Miss Kynman and all our students for two amazing Christmas Concerts last Friday!  Your energy was contagious! Thank you to all the parents/grandparents who volunteered in various ways.  We couldn’t have done it without you.

Thank you as well to all the families who have sent in special treats for the staff over the last few days.  Your kindness and generosity are sincerely appreciated.  Recess breaks have been extra special lately.  😊

  • Monday began Christmas Spirit Week. It was Christmas Cheer Day.
  • Tuesday, our grades 7 & 8 students had Advisory Groups.
  • Tuesday was Shine Bright Like a Light.
  • Wednesday was pajama day, ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.
  • Wednesday was also our family Roots of Empathy visit.  Little Thomas is growing, has two teeth, and is an excellent little “teacher.”  Our theme was emotions and relationships.
  • On Thursday, it was Santa’s Workshop Imposters…students/staff dressed like Christmas characters. This was a lot of fun!
  • Today it was Blizzard Before the Break!  Everyone was hoping for snow. (not really 😊)
  • Today we also had our School Mass with Fr. Robert Polz presiding.
  • We ended our day today with a Christmas pageant/sing-along, and then early dismissal.

VOLUNTEER FOR LOADING ZONE PATROL 815 AM – 845 AM MONDAY TO FRIDAY

The developmental girls’ volleyball team had a fantastic season! This team is composed entirely of girls in grade 6 who have never played volleyball games before. They learnt new skills such as serving and working on their bump set volley in response to receiving a toss or a serve. The girls played 6 games throughout the season and competed in a tournament. They made tremendous progress throughout the season, and I am incredibly proud of their hard work! Chargers strong.Ms. Copeland

Congratulations to the developmental boys’ volleyball team who had a great season this year. We won 4 of our season games! Each player worked hard to improve their skills and grow as a player each practice and game. I am very proud of the boys and how far they have come this season. They should be very proud of the growth they have achieved as athletes. We celebrated the end of our season with a scrimmage against the developmental girls’ team and some well-deserved pizza! Thank you to all the players and parents who supported the team this season! Way to go Chargers! Miss McEvoy

The Grade 7 and 8 Girls competitive volleyball team finished with a 3-5 record and advanced to the 2nd round of playoffs. The season was full of growth and enthusiasm. The girls had an amazing positive attitude and supported each other throughout the season. High fives to you!  Your coaches are very proud of you!  Sandy Marsh Hamm and Sarah Boughton

Congratulations to the competitive boys’ volleyball team on a very successful season.  The boys had a very impressive record of 5 wins and 3 losses in the regular season, and qualified for Tier 1 playoffs.  It was most of the boys’ first time playing on a competitive volleyball team, and they worked very well together and learned some new skills.  Great season boys! Mr. Vechina

TAKE A LOOK AT WHAT HAPPENED THIS WEEK…

  • Our Fall Book Fair week began on Monday.  Thank you to all the families for your very generous support.  All monies received go back to purchase items from Scholastic for the classrooms. A huge thank you to our Book Fair committee!  You worked very hard to make this event so successful, and the students had a terrific time “shopping” and participating in the fun activities!  Check out the attached pictures of “read to your stuffy” activity. 😊
  • We had another fire drill on Monday afternoon.
  • Tuesday, our gr. 8 students began the day with a family visit for Roots of Empathy.  Our theme for this visit was on “Crying.”  Baby Thomas was an excellent teacher once again and participated in some baby exercises. The students learned why Thomas cries, and ways he can be soothed when he is upset.  They also learned that he is a very content baby overall.
  • Our grs. 7 & 8 students had their Enrichment classes Tuesday morning.
  • Parent Teacher Interviews happened both Wednesday and Thursday evenings. It was terrific to feel the energy in the building both evenings!
  • The Staff Appreciation Day Luncheon was held on Thursday, and the grs. 3, 3-4, & 4 parents hosted this wonderful event.  A huge thank you to all these families for hosting such an amazing luncheon!!  What a special treat! 😊  Thank you to Roscoe’s Catering for preparing the luncheon.  It was delicious and the staff always look so forward to this luncheon.  It really makes our day extra special.
  • We had our first Used Uniform Sale of the new school year on Thursday afternoon from 3-6pm.  Thank you to Rebecca and all her volunteers who worked so hard to sort, organize, and make this such a successful event.
  • Today was MTS PD Day.  There was no school as teaching staff were participating in various professional development opportunities around the city.

LOOKING AHEAD TO NEXT WEEK….

  • School Mass is at 10:30am on October 24th.  Fr. Kelly will be presiding over at St. Charles Parish. Please feel free to join us if you can.
  • Our Reading Clinician will be presenting some learning strategies for reading to all our grs. 7 & 8 students on Tuesday.
  • PML Recital is at noon on Tuesday.
  • Mrs. Prettie and I will be attending the monthly Board Meeting on Wednesday evening.
  • Many staff will be participating in our First Aid/CPR Training course on Thursday evening. Each year, staff are rotated through this course so that everyone is always updated on their training.
  • We will have some alumni from SPHS visiting SCCS on Friday. They are here to volunteer and give back to the school community.  We are looking forward to hosting them next week!
