FORT WHYTE
The Grade 3, 4, and 3-4 classes enjoyed an exciting field trip to Fort Whyte, where they participated in the Vive le Voyageur program.
Their day was filled with hands-on activities, including a scenic snowshoe hike, traditional Voyageur games, delicious snow taffy making, thrilling tobogganing, and an engaging fur trading experience.
Students also had the opportunity to explore the Indoor Wildlife Prairie Museum, where they learned about local wildlife and prairie ecosystems.
MANITOBA MUSEUM
The Grade 7 and 8 students had an exciting and educational field trip to the Manitoba Museum, where they engaged in interactive learning experiences tailored to their grade levels.
The Grade 8 students explored the fascinating world of ancient civilizations through the Mummies & Societies Through Time program, where they learned about the customs, traditions, and burial practices of different societies. They also participated in a Pottery Workshop, where they had the opportunity to create their own clay pieces while gaining insight into the significance of pottery in historical cultures.
Meanwhile, the Grade 7 students focused on environmental studies with the Climate Change in Manitoba program, where they examined the local impacts of climate change and discussed ways to protect our planet. In addition, they took part in the Lapidary Workshop, where they learned about rocks and minerals, including the process of shaping and polishing stones to create unique pieces.

GRADE 5 DETECTIVE CLUB
Sharpening Minds One Mystery at a Time!
Each week, the Grade 5 Detective Club tackles a new mystery, from missing items to anonymous notes, using logic, deduction, and teamwork to crack the case. Presented with extra details to sift through, students must think critically, collaborate effectively, and work within a time limit to uncover the truth. Working in teams of 4-5 students, our young detectives follow in the footsteps of Sherlock Holmes or Nancy Drew, making this an exciting and engaging way to develop critical thinking skills. It’s been incredible to see their sharp reasoning and creative problem-solving in action!

JUMP ROPE FOR HEART
- Our school is participating in Jump Rope for Heart – a fundraiser that will encourage our students to get active, build healthy habits and give back.
- Support heart health with Jump Rope for Heart.
- Our school’s fundraising page link is https://jumpropeforheart.crowdchange.ca/84810
At today’s Jump Rope for Heart assembly, students engaged in an important learning session about recognizing the warning signs of heart-related emergencies and understanding how they can take action to help others. This initiative not only promotes heart health awareness but also empowers students with valuable knowledge that could make a difference in critical situations.
In addition to the assembly, students will be incorporating this theme into their gym classes, where they will focus on developing their skipping skills. Jumping rope is a fun and effective way to improve cardiovascular fitness, coordination, and endurance. Through these activities, students will not only build their physical skills but also reinforce the importance of maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle.

TRUTH & RECONCILIATION
I wanted to recognize the dedication of our educators and support staff in advancing Reconciliation in our classrooms.
In September, Indigenous School Leads collaborated to share feedback, explore resources, and strengthen support for students and colleagues on their Reconciliation journey. Manitoba requires all school employees to complete Treaty Education Training by December 2025, and we are proud that the staff at SCCS will all be finished by April 2025. This year, treaty education curriculum lessons are integrated across all subject areas, ensuring all students engage with this important learning.
Guided by our Elder, Father Stan Fontaine, the Truth and Reconciliation Committee is committed to fostering learning through the Seven Sacred Teachings. This year, our community is focusing on Humility, exploring how it connects with Catholic values through meaningful activities and discussions.
We are grateful to our School Leads and entire school community for their commitment to Truth and Reconciliation. By embracing Indigenous history and traditions, we continue to enrich the learning experience for students, parents, and staff.

“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.”
-Colossians 3:12-14As we prepare our hearts for Lent, this passage reminds us to embrace virtues that bring us closer to Christ—kindness, patience, and love. It is a time to practice forgiveness and unity as we journey toward spiritual renewal.
Have a wonderful weekend ahead!
