Principal’s Weekly Update and Important Information- June 5, 2026

Attachment:

Every year, we celebrate Founders’ Day. It is not only an opportunity to reflect on the history of our school, but also a meaningful time to recognize how our building and learning spaces have evolved over the years. While the physical structure has changed and been adapted to meet the needs of each generation, it remains a significant responsibility for our community to preserve and honour this important place. It is both a privilege and a commitment to care for a building that has served students for well over a century.

Our story began in 1904, when Archbishop Langevin founded the Congregation of the Oblate Sisters, which included Sister Viateur and Sister Marie. In 1906, recognizing the need within the parish of St. Charles, Archbishop Langevin wrote to Mother St. Viateur, expressing that the establishment of a school was something “God is asking of us.” That September, St. Charles School opened its doors. Mother St. Viateur served as the first principal from 1906–1909 and again from 1927–1933.

At that time, daily life looked quite different-there were no concerns about traffic congestion or parking. Instead, the community’s focus was on safely crossing the river, to reach the school. While much has changed, the deep sense of commitment to faith, education, and community has remained constant.

As we marked Founders’ Day, we recognized that our legacy is shaped not only by this rich history, but by the people who continue to bring it to life each day. Our students, staff, families, and community each play a vital role in carrying forward the vision first established over a century ago. Together, we continue to build on this foundation, guided by faith, service, and a shared commitment to excellence.

Throughout the last week, classrooms engaged in thoughtful lessons and created beautiful artwork to honour our founders and celebrate the legacy of our school. We concluded the celebration with ice cream, joyfully recognizing St. Charles Catholic School’s 120th birthday.
