Principal’s Update – June 20, 2025

Attachment: Clinical Support Services Change

This week’s message begins with a heartfelt thank you to a few members of our staff who will not be returning next year. We are grateful for the gifts they have shared with our community, the care they’ve shown our students, and the contributions they’ve made during their time with us.

  • Ms. Carrie Gel – A valued member of our staff since 2015, Ms. Gel has contributed to many roles over the years, most recently as our Grade 4 teacher. Her dedication and versatility for students have been greatly appreciated.
  • Ms. Ellie Chouzouris – Joined us in 2023 as our Grade 6 teacher and brought warmth and creativity to her classroom.
  • Ms. Jaden Holle – Joined our team this year as the Kindergarten to Grade 4 French teacher and quickly became a joyful and energetic presence in our early years program.
  • Ms. Audrey Mapuyan – Served as an Educational Assistant for the past two years, offering consistent care and support to students across all grade levels.

At the same time, we are excited to welcome new staff members! Each brings a passion for Catholic education and a commitment to student growth, and we look forward to the year ahead as they join us in building on the strong foundation of faith, learning, and community.

I am Joanne Mulvena, and I’m thrilled to be returning to SCCS next year as the Resource Teacher, covering for Mrs. Boughton during her maternity leave. With over 31 years of experience in education, including roles as teacher, resource teacher, vice principal, and principal, I remain deeply committed to supporting student success through collaboration, clear communication, and inclusive practices. I believe all students are capable learners, and at the heart of my work is a commitment to building strong, trusting relationships.

I am Chelsey Levesque, and I am the new Kindergarten to Grade 4 French teacher. I graduated from the University of Manitoba in 2014 and began my career teaching French in rural schools. I’ve taught a variety of grades and subjects, from Kindergarten through Grade 12, which has shaped my adaptable and student-centered teaching approach. In 2022, I joined St. Emile Catholic School as the Grade 1-8 French teacher. As a specialist, I focus on building strong language foundations through meaningful routines, scaffolded learning, and strategies that foster confidence and engagement. My teaching philosophy emphasizes educating the whole child—while creating a positive classroom culture that nurtures curiosity, resilience, and a lifelong love of learning.

I am Dianne Santos, and I’m excited to be joining St. Charles Catholic School as the new Grade 4 teacher. I completed my Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education degrees in Ontario and moved to Manitoba last year to pursue my passion for teaching. My approach is interactive and inclusive, aiming to meet the needs of all learners. My goal is to develop well-rounded lessons that allow every student to engage meaningfully and experience success. I’m truly looking forward to supporting the Grade 4 students to grow in both knowledge and confidence!

I am Allison Van Helvert, the new Grade 6 teacher. With over 10 years of experience in a variety of school settings, I’ve been on a journey to find the right fit—and I’m excited to call St. Charles home. I’m a teacher, a mom, and a dedicated multitasker. My teaching philosophy is simple: relationships come first. I believe that strong connections with students are the foundation for meaningful learning and personal growth. I focus on helping students build lifelong habits. Outside the classroom, I’m busy keeping up with my two kids (ages 7 and 4), fitting in workouts, reading, and experimenting in the kitchen.

We are also pleased to share our returning staff for the 2025–2026 school year. We thank them for their ongoing dedication and look forward to another wonderful year together.

The school calendar for the upcoming school year is now available on our SCCS website. Please be aware that this calendar gets updated regularly and changes can be made.
Please continue to check the website for updates!

Lost & Found tables will be set up in the school entrance starting Friday and will remain until Tuesday at 3:00 PM. We encourage families to stop by the office and check for any missing items before the tables are cleared.

With Summer Colour Days, students are welcome to bring their own gym clothes to change into for PE class. Students still must change out of their regular clothes for gym. Some students may find it easier to continue wearing their regular uniform gym clothes, which is absolutely fine.

Please also ensure students wear proper footwear for physical activity—no slides, flip flops, or crocs.

The school supply lists for the upcoming school year are now posted on the SCCS website.

You’ll find detailed lists by grade to help you prepare for September. We encourage families to review the lists early to take advantage of back-to-school sales over the summer.

To access the supply lists, please visit our website and look under the “Parent Information”, “Shop”, or “Resources” section.

Thank you for your support in helping students start the new school year organized and ready to learn!

PAC is also inviting parents to consider becoming a Classroom Representative for the 2025–2026 school year. If you’re interested in supporting classroom communication and parent engagement, please submit your name for consideration by Thursday, June 26th. Submissions can be sent to the PAC Chair at stccspac@stccs.ca. Classroom Reps will be confirmed at the first PAC meeting on Wednesday, September 10th. We appreciate your continued involvement and support in building a strong school community!

Tabs for Wheelchairs

The school year is quickly coming to an end and there are many families without VIP hours logged on Permission Click.  If you have opted into the VIP program, you are required to complete 20 hours by the end of the year, or you will be invoiced.

The VIP Committee will start verifying hours on June 22nd, 2025. Please ensure all completed hours are logged into Permission Click by June 21st, 2025 at noon.

An updated copy of the VIP hours has been uploaded onto the website. (report was ran May 27th).  Please log in and verify the number of hours is correct for your family (check all possible last names used).  If the number or status is incorrect please email vip@stccs.ca and we will assist you. If you are unable to complete your VIP hours the front office will be accepting gift cards (GC) until June 16th.   A $30 gift card is equivalent to 1 VIP hour.  The gift cards will be used for prizes for BINGO, Trivia Night, Craft Market and our Golf Tournament.  Please ensure all gift cards are placed in an envelope labelled “VIP Hours GC” with your family name and the gift card total. If you have not logged any hours and have decided to opt out of the VIP program please reach out to finance@stccs.ca and they will assist you further.

VIP hours will not be accepted via email as they must be logged into Permission Click.  If you do not have a username/password for the school website please reach out to websitemanager@stccs.ca and they will assist you further.

If you have any question about VIP hours, please contact the VIP Committee at vip@stccs.ca

Your child’s report card will indicate who their teacher will be for the upcoming school year. Please note that full class lists are not shared. Student placements have been carefully and thoughtfully determined by staff and administration, with many factors considered to ensure a balanced and supportive learning environment for all students. These decisions are final and will not be changed under any circumstances. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Report cards will ONLY be distributed on Friday, June 27th and will not be sent home earlier. Students will receive their report cards at dismissal on that day.

If your child will not be in attendance on June 27th, you may pick up their report card:

  • From their homeroom teacher between 9:00–11:30 AM, or
  • From the front office between 11:35 AM–2:00 PM

Any uncollected report cards after 2:00 PM will be held at the school and available for pick-up when the office reopens on August 19, 2025. Thank you for your cooperation and support!

STUDENT SERVICES – IMPORTANT INFORMATION

At the top of this update is a formal letter outlining changes to our Shared Services Agreement with the Winnipeg School Division. For many years, this agreement allowed us to welcome WSD clinicians into our school to support students in various areas, including speech and language services. We are grateful for the valuable partnership and support we have received through this arrangement.

The attached letter explains the changes to this agreement and outlines the next steps to moving forward. If your child is currently receiving speech and language support, we strongly encourage you to carefully review the recommendations provided in the letter to ensure continuity of care.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or require further clarification.

We are asking for your help! So far we have raised $97,095. Amazing!
You can track our progress on the school website.
