Principal’s Weekly Update and Important Information- November 21, 2025

First, Trivia Night-A heartfelt thank-you to the organizers! Your hard work, organization and teamwork made the night a wonderful success. Having the event at the school created such a welcoming atmosphere. The trivia questions, the food, and the energy in the gym were fantastic. (And I’m still amazed that Manitoba has that many Canadian Tire stores!)
Community involvement was strong, and the extra volunteers who came out made a meaningful difference. It was a great evening of fun and connection.

This week also saw several Sign-Up Genius emails go out as we prepared for the Craft Fair and the Kinder Open House. These are two major events which happen very close together, and the way our community responded-quickly filling the volunteer roles and providing what was needed, speaks volumes about everyone’s generosity and commitment. I am so grateful for all the support.

Looking ahead, we have two large field trips next week, The Manitoba Museum and the Moose game. Once again, we see many parents volunteering their time to help. A reminder that both field-trip days will be colour days for the students and staff attending.

Thank you, SCCS parents for everything you do to support our students, our staff, and the life of our school community. You should be very proud of the impact you have. If you have not had a chance to volunteer yet, I invite you to get involved-every contribution helps strengthen our community.

Thank you for supporting the musical and helping us make this season bright!

Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our school grounds safe and accessible for all. To help support this effort, we are looking for parent volunteers to assist with our parking lot and loading zone patrol.
Please sign up using the link below: 2025-2026 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED | PARKING LOT & LOADING ZONE PATROL .

The crosswalk near the church: you cannot pass the lineup of cars that are waiting for patrols or waiting for the loading zone. Please be patient and wait in line and DO NOT PASS vehicles at any time.

Parking: Please do not park or block our neighbours’ driveways.

Your support makes a real difference in ensuring safety for our students and families.

This year, you will notice a new Learning Behaviours comment box on your child’s report card. This section provides specific feedback on important skills such as responsibility, work habits, collaboration, and overall readiness to learn.

Providing comments in this area is important because learning behaviours deeply influence a child’s success in the classroom. They help families understand how their child approaches learning, how they interact with others, and where support may be needed. These habits form the foundation for academic growth and future learning.

We hope this addition gives families a clearer picture of how students are growing as learners.

KOATS FOR KIDS

St. Charles Catholic School is proud to support United Way’s “Koats for Kids” program again this year. Thank you for your generosity and for helping to keep our community warm this winter.

Will take place on Tuesday, December 16th at 6:30 PM at Portage Avenue Church (1420 Portage Avenue). There will be no matinee performance.
The concert will also be live streamed for those unable to attend.
Our students and staff have been working hard—please save the date, as your family’s presence helps make the evening special.

Reminder: All orders must be placed through MunchALunch at www.munchalunch.com ONE WEEK IN ADVANCE.

Weekly Programs:

  • Monday – BLINE
  • Wednesday – Cheer Recital at 4:20 pm, NOTE: there is no BLINE on Wednesday
  • Thursday – Hair Styles

A few reminders:

  • Next week begins a new month.
  • There are still a few spots left in the Christmas Craft.
  • January registration forms will start new BASC program sessions.

Thank you! If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Furutani.

As we move through the school year, we kindly remind families to regularly check their children’s hair for head lice. Lice are common and can spread easily in environments where children are in close contact. Please take a few minutes each week to inspect your child’s scalp, especially behind the ears and at the nape of the neck. If lice or nits (eggs) are found, please treat promptly and notify the school. Early detection helps prevent further spread.

Lice FAQs:

  • Is an itchy head always a sign of lice? Not necessarily. While itching can occur, many children with lice do not feel itchy at all.
  • Can lice jump from head-to-head? No. Lice do not jump or fly-they crawl. They spread through direct head-to-head contact.
  • Do lice live on pets? No. Head lice only live on human scalps, not on pets.
  • What do nits look like? Nits are tiny, oval-shaped eggs that stick to the hair shaft close to the scalp. They can look like dandruff but don’t flake off easily.

Thank you for helping us keep our school community healthy!

Do you have a child ready for kindergarten next year? If so, please let the office know so we can add your information to our list.

We are excited to invite families to our Kindergarten Open House on Tuesday, November 25 at 6:30 PM. The evening will include an information session, a school tour led by our student ambassadors, and a small reception.

Our current families are truly our best ambassadors, and we appreciate your continued support in promoting our school. We are expecting a big turn out this year!

Join us for the St. Charles Catholic School Craft Fair on  November 29 from 10:00–3:00!
Enjoy a wonderful day of local vendors, handmade goods, delicious treats, and our festive hot chocolate bar.
It’s the perfect way to start your Christmas shopping while supporting our school community.
331 St. Charles Street – We can’t wait to see you there!

We are asking for your help! So far we have raised $97,095. Amazing!
You can track our progress on the school website.
