Principal’s Weekly Update and Important Information- November 7, 2025

Attachment:

At St. Charles, we believe remembrance is more than a single day on the calendar. Throughout the week, students learned about its meaning in their classrooms through reading, writing, art, and discussion. These moments of learning helped our students understand that peace is something we must nurture every day – through kindness, respect, and care for one another.

Our Remembrance Day Assembly was a moving tribute of faith, music, and reflection. The Grade 6–8 Choir offered a heartfelt performance, and our Wind Ambassadors opened the assembly with a beautiful rendition of O Canada. The Grade 1–2 students shared a touching poem about peace, reminding us that even our youngest learners understand the value of hope and compassion. We were also honoured to welcome Lieutenant Colonel Robert Nash as our guest speaker, whose words inspired gratitude and pride in our students.

As we remember the sacrifices made by so many, may we continue to teach our children that peace begins with small acts of understanding and love – in our homes, classrooms, and community.

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.”  Matthew 5:9

Beginning this year, Kindergarten to Grade 6 report cards will use a 4–3–2–1 achievement scale to reflect student learning in alignment with Provincial Curriculum Standards. This scale helps describe how well a student demonstrates their understanding and ability to apply skills that have been taught.

4 – Very Good to Excellent
The student meets grade-level expectations independently and can apply skills to new situations. Work shows confidence, accuracy, and transfer of learning.

3 – Good Understanding
The student meets grade-level expectations independently with familiar material. There may be small errors, but overall understanding is strong.

2 – Basic Understanding
The student shows partial understanding and often needs teacher support or prompting. Skills are emerging but not yet consistent.

1 – Limited Understanding
The student does not yet meet the grade-level expectations, even with support, and needs re-teaching or additional practice.

This scale provides a more accurate reflection of how well students are progressing in relation to the curriculum. More information will be shared with families in the coming weeks.

If your child is interested and you’d like more information, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me or JP Vigier directly. Thank you for your support!

As we move through the school year, we kindly remind families to regularly check their children’s hair for head lice. Lice are common and can spread easily in environments where children are in close contact. Please take a few minutes each week to inspect your child’s scalp, especially behind the ears and at the nape of the neck. If lice or nits (eggs) are found, please treat promptly and notify the school. Early detection helps prevent further spread.

Lice FAQs:

  • Is an itchy head always a sign of lice? Not necessarily. While itching can occur, many children with lice do not feel itchy at all.
  • Can lice jump from head-to-head? No. Lice do not jump or fly-they crawl. They spread through direct head-to-head contact.
  • Do lice live on pets? No. Head lice only live on human scalps, not on pets.
  • What do nits look like? Nits are tiny, oval-shaped eggs that stick to the hair shaft close to the scalp. They can look like dandruff but don’t flake off easily.

Thank you for helping us keep our school community healthy!

St. Charles Borromeo (1538–1584) was a cardinal and Archbishop of Milan known for his deep faith, humility, and tireless service to others. He devoted his life to educating clergy, caring for the poor, and renewing the Church during a time of great challenge and reform.

He is the patron saint of teachers! Like him, we are called to live our faith through service, compassion, and learning.

As a school community, we can relate to St. Charles through our shared mission to grow in faith, help those in need, and work together to make our world a kinder, holier place.

This week, we sent out another email to all families about our upcoming Trivia Night which is one of our biggest fundraisers and a wonderful opportunity to connect as a school community. We encourage everyone to register, come out, and enjoy the evening together.

This year, the event will be held at the school. After dinner, the trivia fun begins for adults, while students will head to the small gym to enjoy a movie.

We look forward to seeing you there!

We are also looking for volunteers: VOLUNTEER YOUR TIME OR DONATIONS TO TRIVIA NIGHT at SCCS Friday, November 14, 2025

About 85% of submitted CARC applications have now been returned to the school. If you submitted an application earlier this fall, you may email the school office at reception@stccs.ca to confirm whether your clearance has been received.

Thank you for your patience and for helping us keep our school a safe and caring environment for all students.

A heartfelt thank you to our school community for supporting this year’s Harvest Manitoba Food Drive. Your generosity truly makes a difference for families in need across Manitoba.

Thanks to your donations, we collected an amazing 146 pounds of food and $37.20 in monetary contributions-that’s the equivalent of six full grocery carts of food, enough to provide over 120 meals for local families!

Your kindness and continued support show the true spirit of giving that defines our community. Thank you for helping us make a positive impact.

We are asking for your help! So far we have raised $97,095. Amazing!
You can track our progress on the school website.
